Table 1 — EOS award on termination or contract end (Article 84), SAR

Applies when the employer ends the contract (other than for an Article 80 reason), when a fixed-term contract expires or in the other situations where the Labour Law grants the full award (for example a contract ended by force majeure).

Table 2 — EOS award when the worker resigns (Article 85), SAR

Resigning workers receive a share of the Article 84 award: nothing under 2 years, one-third from 2 to under 5 years, two-thirds from 5 to under 10 years, and the full award at 10 years or more.

Table 3 — Months of wage by years of service

Multiply your monthly wage by the figure in the column that applies to you. This is the simplest way to sanity-check the number your employer gives you.

If you are close to the 2-, 5- or 10-year mark, check your exact start date in Qiwa before you hand in a resignation. Service is counted from your contract start date, and periods of unpaid leave may not count.

Worked examples

1. Contract ends after 7 years, wage SAR 8,000

First 5 years: 5 × 0.5 = 2.5 months. Next 2 years: 2 × 1 = 2 months. Total 4.5 months × SAR 8,000 = SAR 36,000.

2. Resignation after 3 years 6 months, wage SAR 5,000

Full award: 3.5 × 0.5 = 1.75 months = SAR 8,750. Resignation between 2 and 5 years pays one-third: SAR 2,916.67.

3. Resignation after 12 years, wage SAR 15,000

Full award: 2.5 + 7 = 9.5 months = SAR 142,500. At 10+ years a resigning worker receives the full amount: SAR 142,500.

Frequently asked questions

How much end of service will I get after 5 years in Saudi Arabia?

If your contract ends or your employer terminates you (not for an Article 80 reason), 5 years of service earns 2.5 months of your last wage: half a month for each of the first five years. On a SAR 10,000 wage that is SAR 25,000. If you resign at exactly 5 years you receive two-thirds of that, about SAR 16,667.

Do I get end of service if I resign before 2 years?

No. Under Article 85 of the Saudi Labour Law a worker who resigns with less than two years of continuous service receives no end-of-service award. Termination by the employer or the natural end of a fixed-term contract is different: Article 84 then applies from the first year, pro-rated.

Why does resigning one month before 5 or 10 years cost so much?

Article 85 pays resigning workers one-third of the award between 2 and 5 years, two-thirds between 5 and 10 years and the full award after 10 years. The share jumps at each threshold, so on a SAR 10,000 wage resigning at 4 years 11 months pays about SAR 8,194 while resigning at 5 years pays about SAR 16,667.

Which wage is used — basic or basic plus allowances?

Article 84 uses the last wage. HRSD defines wage as the basic wage plus other amounts due under the contract, so regular fixed allowances such as housing are normally included; only variable items like commissions may be excluded by agreement. The tables on this page apply to whichever monthly wage figure your contract uses.

Are these figures official?

They are calculated directly from the formulas in Articles 84 and 85 as published by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD). They are not survey data and do not include unpaid salary, leave encashment or notice pay. Check a binding figure with HRSD's own calculator or Qiwa.

Can I reuse this data?

Yes. Journalists, HR teams and bloggers may quote or reproduce the tables with a link to this page as the source. A CSV file of the full dataset is available for download.
