How the NWC Water Tariff Works in 2026
The National Water Company (NWC) applies a four-block residential tariff in 2026. Block-pricing means each cubic metre is charged at a different rate depending on which consumption bracket it falls into. The bands are:
Block
Consumption (m³)
Rate (SAR per m³)
Block 1
0 – 15 m³
SAR 0.10
Block 2
16 – 30 m³
SAR 1.00
Block 3
31 – 60 m³
SAR 3.00
Block 4
Above 60 m³
SAR 6.00
A sewerage charge equal to 50% of the water charge is also added. Then 15% VAT is applied to the total. Commercial properties have a flat SAR 9 per m³ rate plus the sewerage charge and VAT.
Worked Example
A family of four in Jeddah using 35 m³ in a month:
Block 1 (0–15 m³): 15 × SAR 0.10 = SAR 1.50
Block 2 (16–30 m³): 15 × SAR 1.00 = SAR 15.00
Block 3 (31–35 m³): 5 × SAR 3.00 = SAR 15.00
Water subtotal = SAR 31.50
Sewerage (50%) = SAR 15.75
Before VAT = SAR 47.25
VAT 15% = SAR 7.09
Total bill = SAR 54.34

How to Reduce Your NWC Water Bill
A leaking toilet flapper wastes ~200 litres/day — fix it and save up to SAR 50/month.
Install low-flow showerheads (saves 30–40% on shower water).
Run washing machines and dishwashers only when full.
Use drip irrigation rather than sprinklers for the garden — 60% less water.
Check your meter monthly: if the dial moves with all taps closed, you have a leak.
What is the NWC residential water tariff in 2026?+
The National Water Company applies a four-block tariff: SAR 0.10/m³ for the first 15 m³, SAR 1.00/m³ for 16–30 m³, SAR 3.00/m³ for 31–60 m³, and SAR 6.00/m³ above 60 m³. A sewerage charge equal to 50% of the water charge is added, and 15% VAT applies to the total.
Why does my NWC water bill seem high?+
Most high water bills are caused by hidden leaks. A continuously running toilet wastes ~6,000 litres/month. Check your meter with all taps closed — if the dial moves, you have a leak. Garden irrigation and pools can also push you into the SAR 6/m³ top block quickly.
How can I pay my NWC bill?+
Use the NWC mobile app, SADAD via your banking app, STC Pay / Apple Pay / mada on nwc.com.sa, or NWC kiosks in major malls. Direct debit via your bank is also possible for automatic monthly payments.
Is the sewerage charge mandatory?+
Yes, if your property is connected to the sewerage network. The standard charge is 50% of your water charge. Properties not connected to sewerage (some rural / desert villas) are charged for water only.
How do I read the NWC meter?+
Most NWC meters show a 5-digit number representing cubic metres consumed. Take a reading on the same day each month and subtract from the previous reading to get your monthly consumption. Smart meters now auto-report to NWC.
