About the Dependent Levy
Saudi Arabia introduced the expatriate dependent levy in July 2017. The fee is SAR 400 per dependent per month.
Who is a dependent? Spouse, children (under 18 or in education), and parents sponsored by an expat worker.
Who pays? The fee is technically the responsibility of the expat sponsor (the worker). Some employers cover this cost — check your employment contract.
Payment: The fee is collected with the Iqama renewal fee through the government's online portal (Absher).
Exemptions: Saudi nationals are exempt. Some special visa categories may have different rules.
